Vol. 108 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Labourer's Gratuity.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state on what grounds his Department declined to grant a compassionate gratuity to Mr. William O'Brien, Newbridge, who was employed as a general labourer at the Curragh Camp from 1928 to 1944 and whose employment was terminated for reasons outside his control.

The grant of a compassionate gratuity to Mr. William O'Brien, Newbridge, could not be authorised under the terms of Section 4 of the Superannuation Act, 1887, as this workman's services were not terminated in consequence of the abolition of his employment or for the purpose of facilitating improvements in the organisation of the Department by which economy could be effected.
