Vol. 108 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Owners of Fisheries.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will give a list of inland and tidal water fisheries, showing, in each instance, whether the owners reside within the State.

There are about 1,500 fishery hereditaments recorded for rating purposes in the lists of the Valuation Office, but the rated occupier, although he may often have a substantial interest in a fishery, is not necessarily the owner. Furthermore, there are many fisheries in lakes and tributary streams which are not rated. Generally speaking, my Department does not know who are the legal owners of inland and tidal water fisheries and, consequently, I regret that it is not possible for me to furnish the information sought by the Deputy.
