Vol. 108 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Grants for Out-Offices.

asked the Minister for Lands if he is now in a position to state when the Irish Land Commission scheme providing grants for the erection of out-offices will be received.

Mr. Boland (for the Minister for Lands)

The Land Commission have never operated a general scheme of grants for the erection of out-offices, but the provision of necessary assistance either by way of grant or loan for the erection or repair of out-offices is a normal feature of schemes of land division and rearrangement.

It is understood that the possibility of introducing a scheme of State assistance for farmers to enable them to recondition and improve their farm buildings is at present being considered by the Minister for Agriculture.

I understand the Land Commission have no scheme, but there was a scheme under which there was a rearrangement of congested holdings. Is there any possibility of such a scheme again being established so that aid will be given to people anxious to erect barns? Many people are anxious to know about this. Will this matter be left over so that it may be catered for in the new scheme suggested by the Minister?

Mr. Boland

I could not give the Deputy any information in that connection.
