Vol. 109 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clothing for Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of road workers, in County Dublin, who have been supplied with protective clothing; the number who have not received protective clothing; and the reasons for the delay in making issues to the latter.

I have ascertained from the Dublin County Council that since the 1st January, 1947, the following items of protective clothing have been issued:—

Item

No. Issued

Bib and Brace

—Dungarees

426

Jackets

—Dungarees

354

Boots

—Pairs

335

The normal time for the issue of waterproof coats is at the onset of the winter months and an issue is now in progress from a stock of 300. The stock consists of normal sizes and some difficulty is being experienced in obtaining outsizes but the supply position in this respect is expected to improve shortly.

I am also informed that the numbers of road workers awaiting the issue of protective clothing on the 22nd instant were:—

Item

No. of Road Workers

Bib and Brace

—Dungarees

51

Jackets

—Dungarees

85

Boots

—Pairs

78

The men awaiting issues of bib and brace and jackets include some who now require an additional issue in replacement of the original issue. The remainder consists largely of cases where outsizes are required and these are very difficult to obtain.
