Vol. 109 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Forestry Workers.

Mr. Corish

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will arrange that forestry workers be regarded as industrial workers for the purposes of the Unemployment Insurance Acts.

Mr. Boland (for the Minister for Social Welfare)

Employment in agriculture, including horticulture and forestry, is excepted from the scope of the Unemployment Insurance Acts. It is not proposed to introduce legislation for the purpose of bringing forestry workers within the scope of those Acts but as indicated in the statement made on the Vote for the Department of Social Welfare the whole position in regard to social services is being examined with a view to unification. The question of including forestry workers in the unified scheme will be considered.
