asked the Minister for Justice if he will state, in respect of each prison within the State: (a) the quantity of mats produced, in the first nine months of each of the years, 1945, 1946 and 1947; (b) the value of the mats sold to outside firms or institutions, during each of these periods; and (c) the manner in which the price is determined in respect of mats sold outside the prison service.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mats Made in Prisons.
Mr. Boland
The figures at (a) and (b) are given in the tabular statement which will be printed in the Official Report.
As regards price the usual method is to add approximately 100 per cent. to the cost of the yarn used. Mats of special size or shape are occasionally made to special order. Their price is determined in accordance with the extra labour, time, and skill involved.
