Vol. 109 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Compensation for Relatives of Crew of “Cymric.”

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state when it is proposed to pay compensation to the relatives of the members of the crew of the m.v. "Cymric", lost early in 1944.

Claims for compensation were received from the dependents of ten of the eleven persons who were serving on the motor vessel "Cymric" on her last voyage. Pensions are being paid to five widows and one sister and allowances are being made in respect of eight children. Applications made by parents of seamen were rejected, because their circumstances did not qualify them for compensation. Pensions are paid to the parents only where pecuniary need is established.
