Vol. 109 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Butter Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that visitors to this country are permitted, when leaving, to take certain quantities of butter with them; that sick and delicate people, who apply for an increased ration, on doctors' certificates, are refused consideration of their appeal on the grounds of the insufficiency of the butter available for home use; and if he will make a statement on this position.

Visitors to this country are not permitted to take butter with them when leaving the country.

Applications for an extra allowance of butter received from persons furnishing medical certificates recommending such allowances are considered by my Department. The butter supply position would not permit of an extra allowance being made to all such persons and it is necessary to confine the grant of these special allowances to sufferers from certain diseases, selected after medical advice had been obtained.
