Vol. 109 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Baldoyle (County Dublin) Cottages.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether a final decision has now been reached regarding the reconstruction or reconditioning of cottages at Dublin Street, College Street and Parochial Avenue, Baldoyle, County Dublin; if so, if he will indicate what the decision is; and also, what steps have been taken to complete expeditiously the connection of these cottages with the existing water supply and sewerage system.

The cottages referred to are the property of the Dublin Corporation, forming part of the City Estate. I informed the Deputy on the 6th November, 1946, that a detailed survey of the property had been completed and that plans for the alteration and reconstruction of the cottages had been prepared. Following subsequent consultation between the Dublin County Commissioner and the Dublin Corporation, it has been decided that the improvement of the property can best be secured by having it taken over by the Dublin County Council as a housing area. Agreement has been reached as to the precise property which will be transferred and my consent to the transfer has been given. The Dublin County Commissioner is having some modifications effected in the plans already prepared for the installation of sanitary accommodation in these cottages, and expects to be in a position to put the work in hands when the property is transferred to the county council which I understand will be in about a month's time.
