Vol. 109 No. 3

Health Services (Financial Provisions) Bill, 1947—First Stage.

Leave granted to introduce a Bill entitled an Act to provide for the making of grants in respect of health services, and for certain other matters connected with the matter aforesaid —(Minister for Health).

I would like to know if it is intended to complete the passage of this legislation through the Oireachtas before the dissolution?

It is very advisable that the local authorities should know how they stand in regard to finance for the coming year before they make out their estimates, and this Bill will give them the necessary information with regard to public health finances. I think the Dáil will agree with the Bill, but if there is any strong opposition we can consider then whether or not we will proceed with it.

Second Stage fixed for Wednesday, 10th December.
