The payments made in the year ended 31st March, 1946, in respect of the principal and interest on money borrowed, whether by loans or stock, amounted to £2,419,310. This amount does not include interest on overdrafts which is not always shown separately in the accounts of the local authorities. The amount of such interest is comparatively small and is offset to some extent by interest on credit balances.
