Vol. 109 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bundoran and Ballyshannon Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether he will make further and better provision for telephone facilities in the towns of Bundoran and Ballyshannon, particularly as regards all night and Sunday services.

In order to improve the trunk service to and from Ballyshannon and Bundoran, it is proposed to provide additional lines between Sligo and Ballyshannon and between Sligo and Bundoran as soon as circumstances permit.

As regards night and Sunday telephone services at Ballyshannon and Bundoran, the question of providing continuous attendance at the larger exchanges where the hours of service are still restricted is under consideration, but I am not in a position to say at this stage when a decision may be expected.

I am sure that the Deputy is aware that the provision of continuous service to particular applicants can be considered exceptionally where an element of public service is involved.
