Vol. 109 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Tea for Factory Canteens.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether, in view of the fact that increased supplies of tea are now available, he will grant an allocation of tea for use in factory canteens and new catering establishments.

With regard to supplies for factory canteens, I would refer the Deputy to the reply which I gave to a question in Dáil Éireann on the 16th October. I have decided that supplies of rationed foodstuffs should now be made available to fully-equipped factory canteens set up in recent years or which may be set up in future on the same basis as such supplies have heretofore been provided for works' canteens established before rationing was introduced.

I regret that it is not possible to make supplies available to new catering establishments.

Will the Minister say whether the allocation of tea to factory canteens would cover cases where the management of a factory were anxious to make tea available during a ten or 15-minute respite for their workers?

It would not. It would only cover cases where there is a properly-equipped factory canteen.
