Vol. 109 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Mental Hospital Attendants' Pensions.

asked the Minister for Health if he is aware that a large number of retired mental hospital attendants are in receipt of only meagre pensions; and whether, in view of the depreciated value of money, he will be prepared to authorise local authorities to increase these pensions to a reasonable figure.

The pensions of retired mental hospital officers, including attendants, were determined in accordance with the relevant Superannuation Acts.

Provision has been included in Section 75 of the Local Government (Superannuation) Bill, at present before the Dáil, under which increases of pensions may be granted in the case of (a) officers who retired between 1st July, 1940, and the 1st November, 1946, and (b) officers who retire before 1st April, 1950.

No review of pensions generally is in contemplation.
