Vol. 109 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Protection of Irish Manufacturers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that, under the conditions attaching to the export drive from Great Britain, manufacturers of certain items, in order to obtain raw materials, have to produce evidence of export; also, that, in the carrying out of this export drive effort, British manufacturers are selling goods in this country at lower prices than they charge for the same goods in the British market, thereby bringing about unfair competition with Irish industrialists; and if he is prepared to make a statement, amplifying his promise of some years ago to the effect that, if evidence of dumping is produced, he will take steps to protect adequately Irish manufacturers.

There is no change in the policy in relation to the protection of industry and if evidence is furnished to me of dumping or unfair competition I will have the matter investigated with a view to taking appropriate action.
