Vol. 110 No. 2

Supplementary Estimates. - Vote 10—Public Works and Buildings.

I move:—

That a supplementary sum not exceeding £10 be granted to defray the Charge which will come in course of payment during the year ending 31st March, 1948, for Expenditure in respect of Public Buildings; for the Maintenance of certain Parks and Public Works; and for the Execution and Maintenance of Drainage Works.

This, as set out in the Supplementary Estimate, is altogether in relation to the purchase of sites and buildings and, as the additional footnote states, premises and sites for the Departments of Finance, Education, Industry and Commerce, Justice, etc., and for the Wireless Broadcasting Service. Two of the properties that are subject matters of this Estimate are required in connection with broadcasting. The third is used by the Furniture Branch of the Office of Public Works. It was held on a tenancy and the tenancy having expired, the purchase had to be made. The sum now required is for that purpose. Finally there are certain premises occupied by the Censorship of Publications Board and there is also a question of purchasing the premises there.

Would the Minister explain the savings under sub-head B?

I cannot give the Deputy the details of these at the moment. As the Deputy will see, they are very substantial. This is only a token vote.

Vote put and agreed to.
