Vol. 110 No. 2

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Live-Stock Shipments to the Continent.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he proposes to allocate quotas to continental buyers or their agents for the sale and shipment of live stock to the Continent during the coming year.

It is proposed to issue licences for the export of limited numbers of fat cattle to continental countries during the 1948-49 season to persons nominated by the Governments of such countries.

Can the Minister say if the numbers allocated will be the same as obtained during last year or the year before; or will they be greatly reduced?

I am not in a position to answer that question at present, but I shall have occasion to refer to this matter more fully in dealing with the Supplementary Estimate which comes before the House to-day.
