Vol. 110 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dairy Disposals Board.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can state when the work of the Dairy Disposals Board, now in existence for some 20 years, will be completed.

The primary business for which the Dairy Disposal Company was established was to acquire creamery premises owned by private individuals or firms and in some instances by co-operative societies, to reorganise the acquired premises into economic units of central creamery and separating stations, and to transfer them at a fair price to the milk suppliers. The company was also entrusted with the task of providing creameries in districts where there were good milk supplies for the disposal of which existing facilities were inadequate.

As to when the main part of the Dairy Disposal Company's work will be completed, all I can say at the moment is that I am anxious that transfer of established groups to co-operative societies should take place as soon as possible. If a majority of the milk suppliers to any particular group forms a satisfactory co-operative society to acquire and operate that group, I hope that a sale could be effected on reasonable terms without delay.

As regards the development work on which the company is engaged, the time required for its completion will depend on the circumstances in each particular case.

Is not that a long way of saying "Tibb's Eve"?
