Vol. 110 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Disbandment of Construction Corps.

asked the Minister for Defence if the Press reports concerning the disbandment of the Construction Corps are correct, and, if so, on what grounds did he base his decision.

Recruiting for the Construction Corps has been abandoned and existing personnel who wish to be discharged are being released from their engagements. It is optional for any members of the corps who are of the required age and physical standards to join the permanent force.

In making the decision regard was had to the fact that the Construction Corps, not serving any definite military function, should not be incorporated in the Army, and that the purpose for which the corps was designed has not been fulfilled.
