Vol. 110 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Phoenix Park Fuel Supplies.

Mr. Byrne

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the recent statement made by the Minister for Finance regarding fuel supplies in the Phoenix Park, he will consider releasing some of the timber and turf stored there to the Dublin Board of Assistance, or other local authorities, for sale at a reduced rate; further, if he is aware that the timber has been stacked in a green state with no allowance for drying, which will result in a 25 per cent. to 50 per cent. loss within the next year.

I am at present considering, with the Department of Finance, the steps to be taken in relation to the various fuel stocks held by Fuel Importers (Eire), Ltd.

As regards the final part of the question, the timber was stacked in its green state, and experience has shown that the loss due to shrinkage over a period of from two to three years is of the order of 30 per cent.
