Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Installation of Telephones.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state the number of telephones which have been installed (a) in Dublin City, and (b) elsewhere, during the three months ended the 1st June, 1947, and the three months ended 1st June, 1948.

During the three months ended 1st June, 1947, 184 telephones were installed in Dublin and 136 elsewhere; during the corresponding period in 1948, 1,117 telephones were installed in Dublin and 582 elsewhere.

Would the Minister be good enough to say when the material required for the installations within the past three months was ordered?

The information I have is that the materials were there. They were not ordered since I took over office.

Will the Minister say if the reason for the large number of installations in 1948 as compared with 1947 was the fact that the men were working on the broken-down telephone wires all over the country in 1947?
