Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Cattle Rearing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture what steps he proposes to take to encourage and effect a rapid increase in the number of cattle to be reared in Ireland.

Steps have already been taken which will result in an increase in our cattle stocks as rapidly as nature will permit. All facilities which in previous years led to the slaughter of large numbers of calves are now being withheld and the continuation of the present price of fat cattle will induce farmers to dispose of their older cattle and so make room on the land for the rearing of larger numbers of calves than was possible in previous years.
