Vol. 111 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Drainage Survey Delays.

asked the Minister for Finance if he will state whether the delay in undertaking drainage surveys is due to the difficulty in securing the service of surveyors; further, how many officials in the Office of Public Works were employed full-time on surveys in February, 1944, and February, 1948, and whether the remuneration paid to such officials is sufficient to attract the necessary personnel.

There has been no delay in undertaking arterial drainage surveys. In the years 1944 and 1948 the number of officers employed on survey work was 12 and nine respectively. Survey work is not carried out in the winter months. The answer to the last part of the question is in the affirmative.
