Vol. 111 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Fruit Containers.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether, in view of the reluctance of shippers to carry lightweight goods which occupy substantial cubic space, he will consider the desirability of making representations to shipping companies to transport from Britain an adequate supply of fruit marketing baskets or punnets to Ireland before the picking of strawberries and other perishable fruit commences.

No complaints have been made to my Department that the cross-Channel operators are placing difficulties in the way of the shipment of fruit marketing baskets from Britain to this country. So far as I am aware, shipping companies are willing to accept these commodities for shipment in the normal course of business.
