Vol. 112 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Telephone Services.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs whether, in view of the fact that the people at Cromane, County Kerry, have been agitating for a telephone service for the past ten years, he will ensure that one is provided from the main line at Killorglin at an early date.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he is aware that there is no telephone in the sub-post office at Duagh, County Kerry, the nearest being three miles away; and, if so, if he will inquire into the possibility of providing telephone facilities at Duagh as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he will state when it is proposed to install a public telephone at Donore sub-post office, County Meath.

I propose, with your permission, to answer the questions numbered 17, 18 and 19 together.

Public telephones will be installed at Cromane, County Kerry Donore, County Meath, and Duagh, County Kerry, as part of the scheme to provide such facilities at all post offices. Work on the scheme, however, has had to be suspended temporarily in favour of more urgent work, particularly the provision of telephones for waiting applicants, and, accordingly, it is not possible to say, at present, when the installations will be carried out at the offices named.
