Vol. 112 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Increased Stamp Duties.

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that increased stamp duties imposed by the Finance (No.2) Act, 1947, have inflicted hardship on Irish citizens desiring to purchase farms and holdings of land; and, if so, whether he will consider introducing proposals for legislation to remove these duties.

The increased stamp duties on conveyances of lands and houses imposed by the Finance (No.2) Act, 1947, have been in operation since 1st December, 1947, and I am not yet in a position to judge the effect of the increases. The matter will be considered before next year's Budget.
