Vol. 112 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Control of Meat Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if, in view of the dislocation and loss caused to farmers by the control of the price of meat, he will take steps to abolish the Meat (Maximum Prices) Order, 1947.

As I stated in reply to a question in Dáil Éireann on the 1st July I am not prepared to revoke the Meat (Maximum Prices) Order, 1947. The prices obtainable at the Dublin Cattle Market and the prevailing Birkenhead prices give a very reasonable return to producers and there should be no loss resulting from the controlled retail prices for meat.
