Vol. 112 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Payment of Road Workers.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he is aware of the grave hardships imposed on all county council road workers, gangers, etc., who are paid their wages each fortnight, and if he will consider directing the local authorities to provide for weekly payments in the case of all such workers.

I have had under consideration for a considerable time the question of weekly payment of road workers, and I hope to be in a position to announce my views on the matter shortly.

Can the Parliamentary Secretary say if he proposes to announce his views on this before the adjournment for the summer recess?

I cannot give any definite time. The Deputy will have to be content merely with my saying that the matter is under active consideration.

That means that it is going to be done immediately?

I did not say that.
