Vol. 113 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Clondalkin Grazing Rights.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will take steps to see that no loss is incurred by his Department's employees at Brownsbarn, Clondalkin, County Dublin, by virtue of his order to these workers to remove their cows from the Department farm.

Four of the employees taken over by the Department with the farm at Brownsbarn, Clondalkin, have each been permitted to graze a cow. As the farm was to be used for the purpose of veterinary research it was impossible to continue that arrangement. In one case the grazing was a perquisite, and this employee's wages were appropriately increased when the perquisite was withdrawn. In the other cases the grazing was subject to payment for which the employees will no longer be liable on removal of the cows.

In view of the great hardship that will be caused to the workers by their being forced to take their cows off the land and in view of the great difficulty, particularly for agricultural labourers, of getting land in that area for grazing, will the Minister look into this question again with a view to obviating such hardship, if possible?

Yes, I will have the question fully looked into.

More soft soap for Deputy Dunne's supporters.
