Vol. 113 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Pig Disease Losses.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he is aware that there are serious losses occurring in the pig population due to a mysterious disease, the diagnosis or prevention of which is not yet possible; and, if so, whether he is prepared to introduce a scheme under which farmers may get some aid in defraying veterinary expenses.

As regards the first part of the question, I would refer the Deputy to my reply to Deputy Childers' question in this matter on November 17th. With regard to the second part, when the results of experiments, now in progress, are known, all measures possible will be taken to cope with the disease. There are no funds out of which aid could be given to farmers towards defraying veterinary expenses.
