Vol. 113 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Corporation Dwellings.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state the number of dwellings completed by the Dublin Corporation in 1947 and in the present year.

Mr. Murphy

Six hundred and forty-five dwellings were completed by the Dublin Corporation in 1947, and 411 dwellings have been completed in 1948, up to the 30th November. A further 200 dwellings are being handed over by the contractors during the present month and this output will be the highest reached in any month since the war. The erection of 2,556 houses was in progress on the 31st October, 1948, as compared with 1,426 in progress on 31st October, 1947.

Will the Minister draw the attention of the Tánaiste to the information he has just given, in view of the fact that he stated recently in public in Dublin that only 100 houses were completed in Dublin in 1947?

The purpose of my statement was to correct a mis-statement about the number of houses now in progress, compared with the number built by the Deputy's Government since the war ended.

Will the Tánaiste study the figures issued by the Minister for Local Government to the Deputy and will he admit now that he was 600 per cent. out in the figures he gave in Dublin?

The Deputy has been millions per cent. out. The Minister's reply proves the accuracy of my statement.
