Vol. 113 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Homespuns and Handwoven Tweeds.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state whether, as a result of recent trade agreements, orders have been received for Donegal homespuns and handwoven tweeds; and, if so, whether he can give any indication as to when his Department will resume purchasing from producers in the Gaeltacht.

As a result of recent trade agreements Gaeltarra Éireann has received orders for handwoven tweeds from countries other than Great Britain. Generally such orders have to be backed by import licences.

Up to the present there seems to be little or no demand for homespuns in foreign markets.

While even yet the position cannot be said to be bright, I have every hope that in the New Year a decided improvement will take place.
