Vol. 114 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Kerry Schools.

asked the Minister for Education when work will start on the building of new schools at Tureencahill and Gneeveguilla, County Kerry.

I am not in a position to say definitely when work will commence on the building of new schools to replace the present Tureencahill and Gneeveguilla National Schools, County Kerry.

The Department has sanctioned a grant towards the cost of the new Tureencahill National School and the arrangements for the erection of the building are in the hands of the Commissioners of Public Works. I understand from the commissioners that the working drawings and specification are nearly completed and that they expect to be in a position to invite tenders at an early date.

The necessary preliminary steps in the case of the proposed new Gneeveguilla Boys' and Girls' National Schools have now been practically completed and it is hoped that it will be possible, in the very near future, to sanction a grant towards the cost of these schools. It will then be a matter for the Commissioners of Public Works to make the requisite arrangements for their erection.

Every effort is being made and will continue to be made to expedite these cases with a view to securing that the new schools will be provided as soon as possible.
