Vol. 114 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Kelp.

asked the Minister for Lands if he has been informed that the former kelp-burners of Renvyle, Connemara, desire to use their seaweed this year in the making of kelp; and, if so, whether it is his intention to arrange for his Department to buy any kelp they may make, or any specified quantity of such kelp.

The purchase of kelp in Renvyle or in any other district is dependent on a market being available for it—there is no market for kelp at present. If the situation should change, the matter will receive immediate consideration.
