Vol. 114 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Development Authority.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he would be prepared to establish a land development authority to encourage the increased use of lime and fertilisers, the adoption of improved breeds of live stock, the modernising of farm buildings and equipment and the reclamation of land.

I do not consider that any new authority is needed for the purpose of achieving the objects mentioned by the Deputy, all of which are being advanced more rapidly than has been the case heretofore.

Is the Minister aware that a farmer who has not the necessary capital has no means of increasing his stocks of pigs or cattle to consume the surplus potatoes on the farm? Further, he has no means available to him of increasing the supplies of fertilisers, including lime, that he requires. There are no credit facilities of any kind at present available——

I cannot see in this question any reference to credit facilities. I think the Deputy has another question down referring to that matter.

I was hoping the Minister would give us a word of encouragement——

Question No. 51. The Deputy did not ask anything about credits.
