Vol. 114 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Monaghan School Caretaker.

asked the Minister for Education whether he is aware that the caretaker of the model schools, Monaghan, is working full time for 45/-per week; that an application for increased wages was made on behalf of this man over six months ago and is still under consideration; and, if so, whether he will say why no increase has yet been granted and will ensure that a substantial increase is granted without further delay.

The wages of the groundsman at Monaghan Model Schools were fixed at £2 6s. Od. per week as from 1st November, 1946. The cases of all employees at model schools have been under consideration, in view of the decision to increase the pay of employees of the State whose inclusive pay was less than £350 per annum. It has now been decided to increase this groundsman's wages by 11/- per week, with effect from 29th May, 1948, and payment at the new rate with retrospective effect will be made at an early date.
