Vol. 114 No. 4

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Duties of Inspectors.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state what provisions, if any, have been made to cope with the additional duties devolving upon inspectors of his Department, consequent on the establishment of joint labour committees in certain trades and occupations in recent years, in respect of which trade boards did not previously exist.

If it should prove to be the case that the duties referred to by the Deputy cannot be carried out with the existing inspectorate. I will then have the position reviewed.

In view of the Minister's answers to previous questions indicating that the low percentage of inspections was due to shortage of inspectorial staff, would he regard it as an urgent matter to adjust the number of inspectors which has been below the number requisite for years past?

I am having the matter looked into.
