Vol. 114 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Extension of Dublin City Boundary.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he has received an application from the Dublin Corporation for an extension of the city boundary; and, if so, when will he be in a position to give a decision on the matter.

The Dublin Corporation has taken steps to initiate the statutory procedure governing an extension of the county borough boundary. I understand that the City Manager will be in a position to report on the matter to the City and county authorities in the near future. I have already assured the City Manager of my readiness to facilitate the local authorities in any procedure which they may wish to adopt.

Mr. A. Byrne

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (i) the cause of the delay in acceding to the request of the Dublin Corporation for the extension of the Dublin City boundary to include the corporation housing schemes at Donnycarney and Sarsfield Road, Inchicore, so that citizens transferred thereto by the Housing Department will not continue to lose the city scale of local benefits and (ii) whether he will give his approval to the extension so that it may be in operation by the 1st April, 1949.

Mr. Murphy

Consideration of the petitions referred to was deferred pending the restoration of the Dublin County Council. Meanwhile the Dublin Corporation has initiated the statutory procedure for a much wider extension of the city boundary.

A report of the General Purposes Committee, dated 26th November, 1948, to the City Council recommended that steps be taken to include this wider area within the city boundary, including the areas to which the Deputy refers. The question of the next step in the procedure for promoting the larger extension is at present under consideration by the City Manager.
