Vol. 114 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Damage by Itinerants.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware of the number of itinerants that are at present encamped in and near the City of Dublin, the amount of damage being caused by their horses, and the nuisance they are to the people; and, if so, whether he will take steps immediately to remove these people completely from the area.

I am aware that there are several encampments of itinerants in and near the city of Dublin. I have no power to order the removal of these people, but the Garda Síochána have instructions to take all possible steps to deal with offences committed by them.

I might mention that several of the encampments are on vacant sites belonging to the Dublin Corporation, and I understand that the corporation are considering what action they can take in the matter.
