Vol. 114 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Children's Clothing Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that certain articles of children's clothing which are invoiced to retailers at 2/11 each are marked at 13/8 each maximum retail price; and, if so, whether he can explain the consideration which permits such a profit margin.

The maximum margins of profit allowed under the existing Clothing Order to wholesalers are 15 per cent. on cost, and to retailers, 25 per cent. on the cost to them. No such margin as that suggested by the Deputy is normally possible. If the Deputy, however, will let me have fuller particulars in this matter, I will have it investigated forthwith.
