Vol. 114 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Forestry Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state (a) where the forestry lands purchased since February 1st, 1948, are situate; (b) the date on which the proposals to acquire these lands were initiated; and (c) the price per acre for these lands.

There were 35 transactions completed between 1st February, 1948, and 28th February, 1949, as follows:—Two in County Cork, two in County Donegal, four in County Galway, one in County Kildare, four in County Kilkenny, five in County Leix, one in County Offaly, two in County Tipperary, four in County Waterford, ten in County Wicklow.

In one case the approval to make an offer for the lands was given in 1943, two cases were approved in 1945, 11 in 1946, 17 in 1947 and four early in 1948. Legal difficulties over title were responsible for the delay in completing the 1943 case as agreement on price was reached in 1944.

The average price per acre paid for the land was about £3 8s.
