Vol. 114 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Land Drainage and Reclamation.

asked the Minister for Agriculture when it is proposed to begin operations under the land drainage and reclamation scheme in County Clare.

I am not yet in a position to say when the land drainage and reclamation project can be applied to County Clare.

In my reply to a question put by Deputy Cogan on the 9th March, I said that it was intended to make a start, with the staff immediately available, in eight counties, namely, Carlow, Kilkenny, Sligo, Leitrim. Louth, Monaghan, Wicklow and Wexford, and that, according as more staff was obtained, the project would be extended until it embraced the whole country. I cannot now forecast the precise time when the staff position will enable me to include County Clare, but I hope to have the project in operation in every one of the Twenty-Six Counties within two years, or perhaps less, from the date on which the first operations under the project begin.
