Vol. 114 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Seine Net Fishing.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will have seine net fishing prohibited in Galway Bay.

As the outcome of a public inquiry held at Galway in May, 1944, a by-law (No. 455) was made prohibiting the use of seine nets for the capture of sea fish, other than herring, mackerel or sprat, in any part of Galway Bay during the period within which all trawling operations had been by an earlier by-law already prohibited within such part. I am not aware of any change in local conditions since that would justify an extension of the restriction upon seine netting such as that now suggested in the Deputy's question.
