Vol. 114 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Former Chairman, Córas Iompair Éireann.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state whether his permission was sought by Córas Iompair Éireann for the payment of monetary compensation to the former chairman of that company on the termination of his appointment; and, if so, whether he granted such permission.

The former chairman of Córas Iompair Éireann informed me that under the terms of his agreement with the company he was entitled to compensation on the termination of his appointment. I made inquiries regarding the legal position and was advised that the sum claimed was payable. The question of granting permission did not, therefore, arise.

Can the Minister say what was the amount of the chairman's salary and the amount of the compensation paid?

It does not arise as the Minister was not responsible.

Is it not being paid out of public funds?

We are contributing £800,000 this year to the railways.
