Vol. 114 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Mayo Lands.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what is now the position as regards the Buddicum estate near Bangor Erris, and whether he is aware that the owners of these lands have been living abroad for a number of years, and that in the townlands adjoining there are holdings of only five and six acres the owners of which are anxious to get enlargement on this estate; and, if so, when the Land Commission intends taking over the lands for distribution amongst the uneconomic holders in the area.

The Land Commission have at present no proceedings for the acquisition of the Buddicum estate, but the matter is under consideration.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware of the hardship suffered by farmers on the Dickens estate because their holdings are in rundale; and, if so, when the Land Commission contemplate fencing and improving the holdings and giving housing grants in this case.

I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to his question of 4th May, 1948.

I have nothing to add to the information then conveyed to the Deputy except to say that considerable progress has since been made in connection with the necessary preliminary survey of the holdings.
