Vol. 114 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Flooding in County Kerry.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that there is occasional and serious flooding of the Cordal stream, tributary of the Maine, and that, on the sale of the local estate to the Land Commission, a certain sum of money was set aside for the periodical removal of obstruction from this stream; and whether the Land Commission accepts responsibility for this work; and, if so, when it will be undertaken.

On the sale of the Ventry estate (Record No. E.C.8616) under the provisions of the Irish Land Act, 1903, a small fund was established to assist the tenant purchasers in the repair and maintenance of the Cordal stream. The Land Commission have arranged for the expenditure from time to time of the income of the fund on the execution of necessary repairs to the stream, but there is no income at present available for expenditure, and the execution of any repairs now required is a matter for the affected tenants.
