Vol. 114 No. 12

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - South Kerry Relief Works.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that only a very small percentage of urgent drainage and minor relief works were carried out in South Kerry during 1948 and if he will arrange for the carrying through of deferred schemes at the earliest possible date.

As stated in my reply to the Parliamentary question by the Deputy on 17th February last, the proportionate amount available for employment schemes in South Kerry for the financial year 1948-49 was duly allocated and expended. On the understanding that the primary purpose of these schemes is the relief of unemployment, and within the limits of the money at my disposal, due consideration will be given in the coming financial year to the making of grants for any proposals which may be found suitable for the purpose for which the money is provided.
