Vol. 114 No. 13

Written Answers. - Offaly Telephone Facilities.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when it will be possible to establish a public call office at (i) the post office in Mount Bolus, Offaly, where such a service is badly needed; and (ii) Walsh Post Office, Offaly.

(i) A public telephone call office was opened at Mount Bolus, Post Office on the 8th April, 1948.

(ii) As regards Walsh Island Post Office, the position is, as I have stated in reply to previous similar questions regarding other post offices, that it is the intention to provide a telephone call office at every post office, but owing to pressure of more urgent construction works it has been necessary to defer their provision for the present. I propose to review the position six months hence, when it may be practicable to resume work on the call office scheme. In the meantime, it is not possible to say as regards any particular post office when a telephone call office will be provided.
