Vol. 114 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Abolition of Visa Requirement.

asked the Minister for External Affairs whether he is aware of the hardship imposed on Irish citizens who desire to visit Rome by the requirement that each must obtain a visa at a cost of 25/- and if, in view of the large number of Irish citizens likely to visit Rome this year and in the future, he will enter into discussions with the Italian Government with a view to the completion of arrangements by which this visa requirement may be abolished reciprocally.

I am in sympathy with the Deputy's views and have had this whole question under consideration. I hope that it will be possible to take a decision in the matter at an early date.

Would the Minister, in pursuance of his own policy announced here, not impose a similar tax on people coming into this country?

That is a separate question.

That was exactly his policy.
