Vol. 114 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - New Land Reclamation Scheme.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he intends to introduce proposals for legislation in connection with his new scheme for land reclamation; and, if so, whether he will state when the Bill will be introduced.

Yes, it is at present in the process of being drafted and will be introduced as soon as it is ready.

Mr. Flynn

asked the Minister for Agriculture why Kerry is not included in the list of counties to benefit under the land reclamation project, and whether he will arrange for its inclusion at the earliest possible date.

I am afraid the Deputy is under a misapprehension. There is no intention of excluding County Kerry or any other county from the land reclamation project. The strength of the staff available will only allow me to make a start in eight counties, namely, Carlow, Kilkenny, Sligo, Leitrim, Louth, Monaghan, Wicklow, and Wexford, and this I hope to do not later than the 1st of next July. As more staff is obtained the project will be extended until it embraces the whole country, and I hope that position will be reached within 12 months from the date on which the first operations under the project begin.
